I Serve a Risen Savior

I Serve a Risen Savior

I Serve a Risen Savior

(V1A11)

He Lives” is a Christian hymn, otherwise known by its first line, “I Serve a Risen Savior.” It was composed in 1933 by Alfred Henry Ackley (1887-1960),

The declaration “I serve a risen Savior” encapsulates the essence of Christian faith and hope. It affirms the belief in Jesus Christ’s resurrection and his ongoing presence and activity. This belief isn’t just a theological concept; it’s meant to be lived out through the lives of believers. Here are five contemporary Christian behaviors that exemplify how this phrase is manifested in the daily lives of those who follow Christ:

1. Living with Hope.

Christians are called to live with hope that transcends the world’s circumstances. This hope is rooted in Jesus’ resurrection, which assures believers that death and despair do not have the final say. By maintaining hope in the face of adversity, Christians demonstrate that they serve a Savior who has overcome the world. This hope is often visible in charitable acts, perseverance in trials, and an unshakeable joy from faith.

2. Practicing Forgiveness.

Forgiveness is a central theme of Christianity, modeled by Jesus in His teachings and actions, especially in His prayer on the cross, asking forgiveness for those who crucified Him. Christians reflect the reality of a risen Savior when they choose to forgive others, embodying the grace and mercy shown to them by God. This forgiveness also extends to seeking reconciliation and showing the world a different way of handling conflict and hurt.

3. Serving Others.

Service is a natural outflow of a heart transformed by Christ. Jesus taught and showed by example that greatness in His kingdom is marked by servanthood. Christians engage in acts of service both within their communities and beyond, reflecting Jesus’s command to love one another. Whether it’s feeding the hungry, supporting the marginalized, or simply offering time and presence to someone in need, these acts of service affirm the presence of Christ in the world today.

4. Pursuing Justice.

His concern marked Jesus’s ministry for the oppressed and marginalized. Christians who advocate for justice, equality, and the dignity of all people are living out the implications of serving a risen Savior who is active in the world. This involves working against systemic injustices, advocating for those who are voiceless, and striving to reflect God’s kingdom here on earth.

5. Sharing the Gospel.

Evangelism—sharing the good news of Jesus Christ—is a direct way Christians demonstrate their belief in a risen Savior active in the world. Through their words and actions, believers invite others to experience the transformative love and grace of Jesus. This doesn’t only happen through formal evangelism but also through everyday conversations, acts of kindness, and living a life that sparks curiosity about the hope within them.

In essence, these behaviors are not just individual acts of piety but are manifestations of a living faith in a living Savior. They are contemporary expressions of an ancient truth transforming lives and societies. Serving a risen Savior means being His hands and feet in the world, living out the hope, forgiveness, service, justice, and truth He embodied. This lifestyle is a powerful testament to the reality of Christ’s resurrection and His presence today.  Click the following link to learn more.
